Rigid Board Fire Resistive Materials is a rigid, mineral wool board that is mechanically fastened to beams, columns and metal decking to meet hourly fire rating requirements. Board Fire Protection is typically more expensive and slower to install but in certain conditions it provides a good alternative to other SFRM’s. It is often used to metal roof decks when schedule does not permit regular fireproofing operation to wait for roof completion. It can also be used at building perimeter steel in cold conditions so that the building may be enclosed for heat, but allowing fire protection to spandrel steel once access has been removed. In retro-fit situations where MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) installations make spray applications impossible due to accessibility.
